What can you use the app for?

Disqus is a comment platform that users can add to a website. The service works with real time comments, which permit website visitors to participate in actual conversations rather than waiting for post updates. The service offers full integration with Facebook, Twitter and other popular social networks. Visitors can login and begin sharing and utilizing social networking features with Disqus. A community box lets users display a summary of their community, including total comments, most active users and number of comments posted by each active user. The user’s visitors can establish profiles that link to all activity associated with that individual. Moderation tools are built in as well as the ability to add restricted words to keep the tone and content of conversations where the site owner wants it to be.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Disqus was founded in May of 2007 by Daniel Ha and Jason Yan. Disqus has received plenty of positive attention, including reviews and mentions on many websites. It has been compared to services like LiveFyre and has lived up to the task relatively well. Many appreciate Disqus’ moderation tools along with the ability to login using multiple third party services. Users also noted that Disqus will overwrite other comment plugins, such as Askimet and does not allow name linking. Other than that, Disqus offers features that has earned the attention of website owners and the user’s frequenting their websites.

What are the differences to other apps?

The beauty of Disqus is in the small details. The application offers just about everything a website owner could want in a comment plugin. Notifications, real time posting, embedded media and the ability to post mobile comments are just a few of Disqus’ main attractions. User profiles allow individuals to establish themselves within the online community while making it easy for others to find related posts for the individual. Disqus presents website owners with a lot to love on its extensive feature’s list.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Disqus gives users a smooth, clean interface that looks modern and blends well with any website. Navigation is easy and allows even a new user to learn how to join in conversations, share videos or build a profile with minimal effort. Even the back end mod controls are simple to master. Disqus gives users a flexible, attractive interface that doesn’t distract but still manages to entice users to join the discussion.

How does the registration process work?

Signing up for an account takes a matter of seconds, you simply need to enter your email address, and then choose a username and password. You will then need to enter your website address that you want to integrate the system with, your website name, and a short name. You must choose a unique short name; it will form the address that’s used to access your comments. Once you have completed that you will need to choose the platform of your blog, if you’re not sure then make sure you find out. It’s also possible to select custom integration; also some other platforms are available but are not supported by the main site. Once you have chosen your platform you will be given instructions about how to install the software. Once you have finished there are a number of other options that you can choose from, although these are all optional and can be left as they are.

What does it cost to use the application?

Users can choose from three subscription plans when adding Disqus. The first is the Core plan which costs nothing and includes social integration, user profiles, spam and moderation tools, mobile commenting capabilities and access to the Disqus network. The mid-range Professional plan costs $299 per month and adds analytics dashboards, real time updating, ranks, moderation reports, priority support, single sign on, advanced theme editor access and Pro API access.
